Ashwagandha Uses and Synthesis Methods
What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha: Also known as Indian ginseng, it is an ancient medicinal plant that has been common in ancient Indian Ayurvedic medicine for three thousand years. It is classified as an adaptogen and is recognized to have significant antioxidant and immune-enhancing functions. It has always been used by the Indian people as an important medicinal material for inducing sleep, nourishing and strengthening the body, and treating a variety of diseases. The roots of Ashwagandha have been used to treat arthritis, constipation, insomnia, skin conditions, gastrointestinal problems, diabetes, fever, snake bites, memory loss, etc. Modern scientific research shows that the active ingredients such as withanolides, alkaloids, and steroids present in Ashwagandha also have multiple physiological functions such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, stress relief, immune enhancement, memory improvement, cognitive improvement, and anti-cancer. It is also known as a rejuvenation drug. Similar plants include maca, ginseng, Acanthopanax and Rhodiola rosea, etc. It is a natural aphrodisiac and testosterone enhancer that effectively regulates low libido and erectile dysfunction and enhances sexual ability. Nourishes the body, restores energy, enhances immunity and sexual ability.
Efficacy and function
Ashwagandha contains alkaloids, steroidal lactones, ashwagandha lactones and iron. Alkaloids have the functions of calming pain and lowering blood pressure. Withanolides have anti-inflammatory effects and can inhibit the growth of cancer cells. They can also be used for chronic inflammation such as lupus and rheumatic arthritis, reduce leucorrhea, and improve sexual function. Ashwagandha extract can be processed into drugs for treating male erectile dysfunction after being combined with other plants with aphrodisiac effects (such as maca, tena grass, guarana fruit, kava root, and Chinese epimedium). It is understood that there are at least dozens of "natural Viagra" products on the US market, most of which contain ashwagandha extracts exported from India, and they are all selling well in the market. Ashwagandha also has an excellent sedative effect and is used to induce sleep. If you are anxious, insomnia, depression, etc., you will sleep well after taking it, which is better than anti-anxiety or anti-depressant drugs.
Main Uses
(1) Ashwagandha is used to treat diabetes, arthritis, liver disease, and cerebellar ataxia. It has been successfully used to treat and reduce symptoms of Parkinson's disease. The greatest benefit of ashwagandha is its anti-inflammatory properties — for those suffering from fibromyalgia, or other such chronic muscle and joint pain associated with inflammation. Ashwagandha lowers cholesterol, and reduces blood pressure. It is even promising as a supplement for some cancers, helping to alleviate immune suppression.
(2) It also has strong neuroprotective properties. It acts as an antioxidant, repelling free radicals and preventing them from damaging brain and organ cells. It can significantly improve mood and mental focus, especially for people suffering from cognitive or emotional imbalances. Those who have been clinically diagnosed with depression or anxiety stand to benefit greatly from it, as it blocks stress responses and induces antianxiety effects in much the same way as GABA. Ashwagandha has also been shown to provide relief for those suffering from ADHD. Even in a healthy mind, it can still help soothe and calm. Recently, according to American researchers, ashwagandha has excellent sedative effects. Now, natural sleep products (sleep aids) produced by American manufacturers all use ashwagandha extract as the main ingredient.
(3) Other health claims include liver health support, tumor weight reduction, inflammation treatment, and slowing aging. It can also stimulate the thyroid gland. Ashwagandha extract has been shown to increase thyroid hormone T4 levels by 60% in mice. By increasing thyroid activity, it can improve metabolism, increase energy levels, and may promote weight loss.
(4) It can increase sexual desire. For centuries, ashwagandha root has been used as an aphrodisiac for both sexes. Ashwagandha is sometimes used as an aphrodisiac. For healthy couples, the probability of pregnancy in each reproductive cycle is about 25%, and the cumulative probability in the first year is about 84%, that is, under normal sexual life and without contraception, there is an 80% chance of pregnancy. When pregnancy cannot be conceived for more than one year, it is necessary to confirm the possibility of infertility. According to a survey, the prevalence of infertility is about 15%, and male factors account for 40% to 50%. Common causes include abnormal sperm morphology, reproductive system infection, orchitis, cryptorchidism, varicocele, etc. A controlled study pointed out that Indian ginseng can not only help improve sperm count, semen volume and sperm motility, but also increase serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone concentrations, which may be helpful for infertility.
Adverse reactions
No studies have shown any safety risks of short-term use of South African somniferum, and no medical literature has recorded any clinical side effects or drug resistance. It has always been believed (although it has not been proven) that South African somniferum is safe even for long-term consumption. The most common side effects of all herbs, especially when taken on an empty stomach, are digestive discomfort and mild allergic reactions. South African somniferum may also have the same side effects.
